Only in Florida…

Jim Norman wants felony charges if you take pictures of a cow.

Reports out of Tallahassee indicate state Senator Jim Norman (R) has filed a bill to make it a first-degree felony to take a photograph of a farm or farm animal without the farm owner’s permission.

Now I don’t know about you, but I haven’t ever heard a single person mention taking pictures of Elsie the cow being a problem. Nor have I read any media reports about this being a cause for concern.  And I certainly doubt it’s of such a grand problem that it warrants a first-degree felony charge, though maybe if picture of said cow was underage it might.

So what gives?

Let’s just take a wild guess here and figure our pal Norman probably has a major contributor who is a farmer who don’t like nobody takin’ no pictures of his of his stock.

While Norman panders to his very small special interests with ridiculous legislative proposals, it is almost certain he will not be sponsoring legislation calling for more transparency, honesty, integrity, and accountability in government. Nor does it appear will any member of the Florida legislature for that matter.

What a moo-ron.

Only in America…

The Girls Scouts of America are currently in the process of selling their famous cookies at malls, civic centers, grocery stores, and churches across the country. One place they won’t be selling them is out in front of 10 East Oglethorpe Avenue, Savannah, Georgia. Apparently a city ordinance prohibits the solicitation of goods for sale on a public street, sidewalk or right-of-way. The referenced address where the Girl Scouts are now banned from selling their Thin Mints and Do-Si-Dos happens to be the home of Julliet Gordon Low – she’s the founder of the Girl Scouts.

Tampa Elections Tomorrow

  1. Seriously? Is there nothing else this guy could be worried about? Our kids/schools. The economy/jobs. Transportation. Lots of problems in Fla. this is not one of them Jim.

  2. This has nothing to do with the animal thing….good grief!
However, I was wondering if you could weigh in on the recent union wars. I would like to hear an observation from someone who is neither left or right.

  3. First a Representative from Tampa gives us the famed toilet paper bill. Now I can not take pictures of animals. Can we do something meaningful in the legislature. This is enough for a recall of Senator Norman. (Gosh putting that meaningful title in front of that name is just awful to write, I had to hold my nose and type at the same time.)
Sadder Allan thinks its to stop PETA and USHS groups from taping at farms. Watch the movie “Food” and learn something Alan.

  4. You know, I was just saying the other day…”Boy howdy! Things are really really getting bad in good ole Florida…police getting shot down, mothers murdering their children, gang violence and gang crime, illegal immigration galore, abuse, foolishness, and mayhem of all kinds…not to mention ALL THOSE PEOPLE TAKING PICTURES OF COWS IN PASTURES!!!

Seriously though, Jim Norman has begun his senate career in complete harmony with his commissioner career — taking care of his buddies. Tit for tat is the name of his game. Some rancher buddy has pulled his chain and Jimbo has put forward this bill — which just HAS to have a place on the Top Ten of Dumbest Bills EVER list.

I just love it when Jim Norman makes a total fool of himself.

  5. Scoop, if you are referring to Food, Inc, I’d guess that you’d also consider Michael Moore’s films to be good education as well.

  6. OMG – I am a republican and a farmer and a photographer. What a CRAZY law – I like to photograph farms and farm animals and enjoy it – since it is my lifestyle. Maybe focus on the real criminals – like ones carrying guns vs Nikons.
