State Senate President shows engaging, politically savvy side

By Chris Ingram

Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos may be a lot of things, but politically unsavvy is not one of them.

The senator called me today to say hello and inquire about some of my concerns with the issues I have been hitting him on for the last few weeks.

He addressed most of my concerns, though we remain in disagreement on some of those issues.

By directly engaging one of his critics (me) directly he opened up a new line of communication. Mike took the high ground without being self-righteous.  And for both of us, that is smart and helpful to the goals we seek to accomplish.

In as much as most politicians don’t get it when it comes to issues like apologizing for errors, or engaging your opponents, Haridopolos does. Further showing his savvy, Haridopolos did not Continue reading “Mike Haridopolos gets it”

Mike Haridopolos’ plan to save Flori-duh

The Kool-aid drinkers eat it up! I guess none of them read the newspapers because I thought I was toast when the story about the book came out. Know what happened? They put it up on Amazon.com and you can now buy it for your Kindle! Ain’t America great?

We can all rest better knowing this guy is in charge…

Satire by Chris Ingram

Dear voters of Flori-duh:

Over the past year, Floridians have made their priority very clear: Create jobs and control spending. Nearly 12 percent of Floridians are still looking for work, and one of the biggest impediments to economic recovery is a track record of unpredictable government spending. What Floridians want, and deserve, is a nice $152,000 book contract. You know, one like the one I got working for that rinky-dink community college. They wanted me to write them a book about Fla. legislative history and stuff like that. So I got my nephew’s 7th grade social studies report, wrote my name on it, and turned it in. And you know what? An uninspiring Senate flock

The current front-runner is state Senate President Mike Haridopolos, the favorite of the party establishment who gave us Charlie Crist and Jim Greer and prefer the status quo. If you, too, like the way things are, and if you think the politicians currently in office are outstanding public servants with the best interests of your children at heart, Mike is your man.

The Republican Party never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

The current field of GOP candidates who aspire to run against U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson represent another missed opportunity. They are all uninspiring political ladder climbers who lack a vision for anyone’s future but their own.

So who are these men who seek to represent us? Continue reading “An uninspiring Senate flock”

Show us the money (or at least the real costs)

For too long, infrastructure projects have been symbols of wasteful spending and deceptive budgeting and jobs projections. As taxpayers we must continue to put pressure on elected leaders to give us transparency and accountability.

Accounting gimmicks lead to cost overruns

For too long, infrastructure projects have been symbols of wasteful spending and deceptive budgeting and jobs projections. As taxpayers we must continue to put pressure on elected leaders to give us transparency and accountability.

High-speed rail is a good example. The project that Gov. Scott just killed on behalf of taxpayers reportedly would have Continue reading “Show us the money (or at least the real costs)”

Ferlita endorsed by Ronald McDonald and Scooby Doo

She’s short on vision, possesses a hot-headed temperament, and apparently has an inability to tell the truth (my kid’s call that lying). Running out of steam, Rose Ferlita’s campaign is now running desperate ads that lie about opponent Bob Buckhorn’s involvement in a matter in which he had no involvement.

Okay, not really but since she’s playing loose with the facts, we are too

She’s short on vision, possesses a hot-headed temperament, and apparently has an inability to tell the truth (my kid’s call that lying). Running out of steam, Rose Ferlita’s campaign is now running desperate ads that lie about opponent Bob Buckhorn’s involvement in a matter in which he had no involvement.

The ad claims Buckhorn was responsible for an old Tampa Police Department policy requiring officers keep their shotguns locked in their vehicle’s trunk. In its report today, The St. Petersburg Times noted the policy was in effect during Sandy Freedman’s term as mayor. Buckhorn served as an aid to Freedman. However, the Times said that the policy was Continue reading “Ferlita endorsed by Ronald McDonald and Scooby Doo”
