Florida Republican Party Chairman Dave Bitner has confirmed to Irreverent View that he has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Bitner was elected chairman by Republicans earlier this year and has vowed to continue to serve.
“I intend to give it all I’ve got. However long God gives me to continue, I will serve. The Party is going to get my best,” Bitner told Irreverent View. He added, “Just look at my schedule. I’m not slowing down.”
Bitner indicated he has Stage 3 ALS and will likely enter an experimental medical research program.
“It’s not a cure. I may get the experimental drug, or I may get a placebo, but my participation may help someone else in the future, so it’s worth it,” Bitner said.
That comment is indicative of the type of man Dave Binter is. Selfless and kind. Politics could use more people like Dave Bitner. Keep your chin up Dave. You and Wendy are in our thoughts and prayers. We need you!
