Gee down on field of U.S. Senate candidates

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee told the Tampa Tribune today that he is “not thinking about” getting into the race at this time. However, he also told the Tribune, ““I hate to say never to anything, but I never thought of my job as sheriff as a steppingstone,” he said. “Washington probably wouldn’t be ready for me anyway – my matter-of-fact style.”

Hillsborough Sheriff still hasn’t ruled out a run

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee told the Tampa Tribune today that he is “not thinking about” getting into the Florida U.S. Senate race at this time.  However, he also told the Tribune, ““I hate to say never to anything, but I never thought of my job as sheriff as a steppingstone,” he said. “Washington probably wouldn’t be ready for me anyway – my matter-of-fact style.”

Gee also told the Tribune’s William March,  “Right now on the Republican side it’s kind of a mixed bag out there. Somebody needs to step up. … The absence of a good candidate is kind of shocking.”

Read into that what you want, but I remain optimistic that Sheriff Gee — with the right encouragement — may still enter this race before it’s all said and done.

  2. If he is an actual candidate who actually keeps his head in the fresh air and sunshine, then a vote for him could be irresistible.

  3. He’s a great guy with character. However, that Capitol Hill air is very toxic. Think I’d rather have him here.

  4. A U.S. Senate Candidate to watch will be Ron Rushing. This candidate is “stepping up” and Sheriff Gee should consider following Mr. Rushing. He’s not about self-promotion, but rather solving real problems. You can go to his website http://www.electrushing.com to learn more.
