Inside the Hillsborough REC

This is inside baseball no doubt, but finally, it seems as though someone of merit has stepped up to the plate to run for Hillsborough County Republican Execuctive Commitee chair. His name is Chris Shalosky, and he is president of the Fishhawk GOP club. (See e-mail of support from Kelly Clem for more details on his background).

New candidate emerges in election to replace Cox-Roush tomorrow night

This is inside baseball no doubt, but finally, it seems as though someone of merit has stepped up to the plate to run for Hillsborough County Republican Execuctive Commitee chair. I am told by a reputable source in the county GOP organization that Carol Carter said she would not run if someone else with credibility (and someone other than Art Wood  — who is running) got into the race. So here is Carol’s chance to bow out, save face, and avoid embarrassing herself and the party.

As I previously wrote, Art “Bob Dole” Wood is a nice guy — and so is my plumber, but I don’t want him being county party chairman. We can do better than handing off this important position in a critical election year (nevermind the fact that the convention is in our backyard) to someone just because “it’s his turn.”

Wood: Bob Dole

Shalosky: not Bob Dole

Lastly, I still say Josh Bergin is missing a great opportunity by not running. Josh apparently cut a deal to support Art for chairman and in turn gain Art’s support for Josh to run for vice-chair. Trouble with that scenario  is Art has to win for there to be something in it for Josh. If Art doesn’t win, he can/will retain his position as vice-chairman and Josh ends up empty-handed. C’est la vie…

Here’s the unedited e-mail of support from Ms. Clem:

Dear Friends,

I am writing this announcement to inform you that one of our own has stepped up to run for Hillsborough County Chair. Please come to support our FishHawk Club President as he runs for Chair of the Hillsborough County Republican Party at tomorrow night’s REC meeting. As a long term grassroots conservative activist, here are the reasons why I think Chris is the Best Choice for helping us defeat Obama in Hillsborough County:

Chris is a Proven Conservative Republican, Chris has the influence to Unite Local Conservatives for victory in 2012.

Chris has a strong military background, professional career, an MBA, and an enthusiasm for American ideals that will be a positive image for the party.

As a grassroots volunteer, Chris is not an “old guard” establishment Republican insider. He has the ability to invigorate and energize a new generation of conservatives.

The best leaders are those who seek not for glory but step up when duty calls.

After much encouragement and personal prayer Chris is ready and able to fight for conservative principles the Republican Party should stand for and lead us to Victory in 2012!

The vote is tomorrow! Call me to get involved in supporting Chris…..

Thank you for helping us work for Victory in 2012!

Kelly Clem-Rickon

  2. Unbelievable…Chris is not who we need at the head of the GOP. I am boiling right now at the whole thing. This is nothing but a ply but to have the person who resigned lead us through someone else. Chris may be president of Fishhawk Republican Club but he doesn’t do the work Kelly does. He is a last second person and has not directive and no way to motivate members. Carol does not see the futur but the past and has no way to bring the HREC into the future. Art Wood is our best bet. He is different, organized, and allows people to do what needs to be done to succeed. He is an elitist but so is Chris. We all have to look at what is best for the party to move forward because it has been mis-managed for quite sometime. I agree Josh should run but he finds some things more important to him and I praise him for it.
Apparently the media has it wrong again.

  3. To see all this play out would kind of be amusing if there was not so much at stake. This whole the is obviously and Debra Cox Roush move to hold her place until she comes back. Brilliant right out of the Vladimir Putin playbook. 1) she backs Ms Carter and when it looks too close to call, along comes Chris to split the vote. We need someone organized, motivated and with good people skills. In addition need someone who is beholding to the Party not to MRS. Roush. I believe that to be MR. Wood. For Debra to even involve her self in this process as if the members are incapable of making a sound decision is ignorant.

  4. Glad to see Art win. He will not hold individuals at bay in fear or being outshined. That is type of man he is and the type of person the REC needs. And concerned in Tampa, WTF is an elitist?
