Internal squabble between Secretary and Audit Committee

The Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee is going through another storm. The party’s internal audit committee in the course of conducting its audit has sought copies of minutes from last year. However, party secretary, Robyn Lankford who has the meeting minutes has declined to provide the minutes to the committee.

When I asked Art Wood, party chairman why the secrecy with the party meeting minutes, he replied, “That’s a head scratcher.”

Wood added he believes Ms. Lankford will ultimately provide the minutes as requested by the audit committee and said he hoped to have this matter worked out in a few days.  Wood also made a point of emphasizing the audit committee has reviewed past financial reports and that there are “no irregularities.”

The audit committee is apparently seeking the minutes to determine if expenses in the financials match the requests of the board for those expenditures.

For her part, Ms. Lankford refused to answer any questions about the matter, adding further fuel to the fire that something is remiss here.

The Hillsborough REC has suffered bad press involving several of its former chairmen and committee members including former Chair Deborah Cox-Roush (committee members concerned about expenses paid by the committee to her former catering company while she was chairman), and former state committeewoman Carol Carter (for forwarding racially insensitive e-mails). This new problem doesn’t help the party build the trust and confidence it needs of its members and the public.

The question remains — and Ms. Lankford’s actions fuel the speculation — that the Hillsborough REC has something to hide.

  2. That group is so screwed up. Which is why I resigned from it. There are a handful of people who actually do anything. The rest of the group sits on their butts and socializes. Glad I am not associated with it any longer.

  3. Tea,
On the contrary, this post reads like it was written by a Republican who can think for himself and who calls them as he sees them — instead of just letting things languish in the shade of ignorance. He calls them out.
