When the mischief is already done

Up until May 18, Florida Republicans were basically facing a choice between just two candidates for the party’s nomination to the U.S. Senate to challenge Bill Nelson in November.

Although Cornelius McGillicuddy IV (aka: Connie Mack) lacks accomplishment, he has been the presumptive front-runner in the race, while George LeMieux has worked tirelessly to get Republican voters to forget that he used to be Charlie Crist’s right-hand man.

After watching the field of previous candidates fail to make traction, Mack got in relatively late. But given that his father was a member of Congress from Florida for 18 years, he has been able to take advantage of daddy’s hard work and reputation to rise to the top.

But all that rises to the top isn’t necessarily the cream of the crop. Mack was born with a Continue reading “When the mischief is already done”

Porno-gate’s wide fallout

Burgin was coronated by Hillsborough County Republicans in 2008 — by all of two Hillsborough Republicans, to be exact. State law permitted the county’s three Republican state committee members to select the party’s nominee (one of the trio was absent the day Burgin was selected). This anomaly occurred when former Rep. Trey Traviesa abruptly resigned after the qualifying period ended. Burgin went on to defeat an unknown, mostly unfunded Democrat in the Republican-leaning district.

Hillsborough porno appraiser, er, Property Appraiser Robert Turner’s ill-advised mouse clicks have caused trickle-down effects in local politics.

For starters, in what has to be the most ill-conceived move of her young political career, state Rep. Rachel Burgin qualified to run for state Senate District 24 when incumbent Sen. Ronda Storms decided to challenge Turner.

FDLE report: Crist paid men to hide gay affair (ouch!)

Tallahassee, Florida – 10 News has learned of allegations of homosexual affairs, a governor trying to kiss another man, and drunken escapades by former Governor Charlie Crist.

***Breaking News***

Kudos to WTSP/CBS channel 10 reporter Mike Deeson (who incidentally is one of the best investigative reporters in Florida) for breaking the following story about former Florida Governor Charlie “Chuckles” Crist, aka: “the Tan Man,” allegedly having paid men to leave the state of Florida to hide his gay lifestyle.

The issue here of course is not “Crist is gay” — that has been common speculation for years. The real issues are: 1) what did he do to cover up his personal life that may have involved pay-offs? 2) what (if any) monies were used? 3) who were those monies paid to? 4) who else knew about it — among other issues surrounding the alleged cover-up? and 5) Okay, Crist is gay, but did he really try to make-out with Jim Greer? Eeeewww!!!

You can start to read Deeson’s story below, and watch the WTSP/CBS 10 news story segment tonight at 11:00 on Channel 10 in the Tampa/St. Petersburg market.

Arguably the funniest part of this story is ambulance-chasing liberal Democrat lawyer, and Chuckles’ boss,  John “Fat Boy” Morgan, of Morgan, Morgan, Morgan and Morgan, calling Jim Greer “porky pig.” Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

Hoe Brown to challenge incumbent for Republican Party post

Hoe Brown, a good man and a good Republican has qualified to run for Hillsborough County Republican State Committeeman. His opponent is a nice guy, but somewhat of a clown who is deeply entrenched in the status quo of party politics and tends to use his position more for his own self-promotion (he’s one of just three delegates from Hillsborough to the Republican convention this summer) and ego gratification. Irreverent View is proud to support Hoe Brown for state committeeman. Brown’s campaign released the following press release early this afternoon.

Brown would bring a breath of fresh-air and seriousness from Hillsborough County to the RPOF

Local Businessman and Activist Hoe Brown Files to Run for Republican State Committeeman

(Tampa, Fla.) – Tampa businessman Hoe Brown filed paperwork with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections today making him a duly qualified candidate for Republican State Committeeman from Hillsborough County. The position is a non-government, unpaid position on the Republican Party of Florida’s state committee. Every Florida County has two elected members who serve on the committee; members are elected by Republican primary voters every four years.

“I want to thank all of those people who have encouraged me to run and are supporting my campaign,” Brown said.

Romney’s ticket won’t include baggage, er, Rubio

Despite having enough baggage to make him look like a suitcase manufacturer, Marco Rubio remains the favorite of pundits trying to figure out whom Mitt Romney will pick to be his running mate.

Despite having enough baggage to make him look like a suitcase manufacturer, Marco Rubio remains the favorite of pundits trying to figure out whom Mitt Romney will pick to be his running mate.

Before explaining why I don’t think Rubio will be on the ticket, it is important to understand the dynamics of this campaign and Romney in particular.

The 2012 race for the White House is different from 2008 in many ways. Foremost, people know who Barack Obama is. “Hope and change” was an effective, poll-tested slogan that has proven to mean little if you’re an Obama supporter; and if you’re an Obama critic, it means you keep hoping, and the only change you have is in your pocket.

Obama has proven that Continue reading “Romney’s ticket won’t include baggage, er, Rubio”
