Jon Huntsman’s path to victory

With his upbeat attitude and serious focus on the issues, Huntsman makes a convincing case for his candidacy. Until now, he has been largely dismissed by both pundits and party activists – the latter whom wrongly conclude Huntsman is a moderate.

And a few things his opponents would rather you forget

By Chris Ingram

Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman was in Florida yesterday. A light day of campaigning was preceded by a coveted appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press in which Huntsman raised the issue of GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney’s electability and his repeated flip-flops.

Following his TV appearance, Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric (who is not currently supporting anyone in the presidential contest) Tweeted, “Wow! Huntsman performance MTP (Meet the Press) very impressive. Thoughful and Presidential. Better 1on1 than debate. Deserves a second look”

From CEO’s like Welch to the few everyday Americans who are actually paying attention to the race, voters are still looking for a believable leader who lacks the baggage of candidates like Caine and Gingrich and the poll-tested and plastic nature of Mitt Romney. Huntsman may be the answer, but a lot of stars will have to line up in a row for Huntsman to become the nominee.

Live free or die

Metaphorically speaking, Huntsman has Continue reading “Jon Huntsman’s path to victory”

Florida Republican Party mutiny expected this weekend

Rumor has it that a misguided bunch of misfits and rabble rousers on the Republican Party of Florida’s state committee will seek the removal of Chairman David Bitner at the party’s quarterly meeting in Orlando this weekend.

Bitner has chance to show “game on”

Rumor has it that a misguided bunch of misfits and rabble-rousers on the Republican Party of Florida’s state committee will seek the removal of Chairman David Bitner at the party’s quarterly meeting in Orlando this weekend.

Bitner who is just four months into his first term as chairman was recently diagnosed as having amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Bitner’s diagnosis was sudden and he currently uses a motorized scooter to move about.

The mutinous bunch of malcontents seeking Bitner’s removal have a long record of throwing bombs at party leaders – sometimes deservedly so, though sometimes not. Continue reading “Florida Republican Party mutiny expected this weekend”

If Charlie Crist told the truth…

I got a fundraising e-mail from Charlie Crist the other day. It was a pretty good hoot the way Charlie “have it two ways” Crist is trying to paint himself as a Conservative. But hey, he’s starting to show some bravado – he’s even got the nerve to quote Ronald Reagan!

His recent fundraising letter would look like this

I got a fundraising e-mail from Charlie Crist the other day. It was a pretty good hoot the way Charlie “have it two ways” Crist is trying to paint himself as a Conservative. But hey, he’s starting to show some bravado – he’s even got the nerve to quote Ronald Reagan!

Each paragraph of Chuckles’ original letter is shown below along with my version of what his letter would read like if he were to tell the truth.

What it should have said is in italics:

Dear Friends,

The fundraising quarter is coming to a close and there are just 9 hours left to join the winning team. I am working hard to raise the resources necessary to earn the privilege of representing the people of Florida in Washington, DC, and I humbly ask you to join us by supporting the Crist for Senate campaign. You can visit Charlie Crist.com right now to make a contribution of $10, $25, $50 or even $100 – whatever you can afford.

Dear Fools and Idiots:

There isn’t much time left for me to continuously and shamelessly shake-down voters across this mess of a state. I’ve worked so hard raising money I almost forgot I am supposed to be the governor! Why I’m so darned shameless, I even had a huge fundraiser on September 11th. Victims, shmictims — I’ve got a campaign to fund. Send me some money now and I’ll think about doing something ‘touchy feely’ on the tenth anniversary when the media is really focusing on it. Next year is an election year, so it’ll have to wait until 10. I know times are hard, but tap into your kids’ college fund if you have to, this campaign is going to cost a lot of coin. Marco Rubio needs your help!

While Charlie wind-tests nearly every issue, Marco Rubio is a principled conservative who shares our view for a smaller government, an end to reckless deficit spending, and a common-sense approach to the issues facing our state, our nation, and our position in the geo-political scene.

Dear Friends of Irreverent View:

As you know Marco Rubio is putting up a spirited challenge to Florida’s leadership-challenged Charlie Crist in a race for the U.S. Senate.

While Charlie wind-tests nearly every issue, Marco Rubio is a principled conservative who shares our view for a smaller government, an end to reckless deficit spending, and a common-sense approach to the issues facing our state, our nation, and our position in the geo-political scene.

Whether or not you believe in every position of Marco’s, you can rest assured that his votes in the U.S. Senate will be based on his heart (not some poll), and with an eye on preserving and expanding the opportunities for future generations — not protecting the special interests.
